UNITY Bound

7:00 a.m., insufficiently caffeinated,  and on the road for our 2nd annual trip to MOFGA for the Scion and Seed Exchange.

Pouring rain is forecast from now until tomorrow, and expecting mixed precipitation further north  -3 hours further - one way.  We will take this over snow and ice.  Long brutal winter be gone!    Rain means snow, snow,  go away and green!  Even if it's gray, drab and muddy out the rain-streaked window - got mudboots instead of winter ones on.  That means one thing!   Spring!

We got there early.  Few cars then but many more as we were leaving.  Excellent turn out.  Delicious food and drink to buy or enjoy at the donation table where delicious home bakes and brews continuously arrived.

I grabbed some sourdough starter "from the 1970's" - reminded me of the first time I ate Sourdough Pancakes.  It was in the 70's as a little girl in Alaska.  We "shopped" the free scion and seed tables.  We also attended a nice, comfortably informative talk , well attended and given by the couple that own Singing Nettles Farm about Integrated Permaculture.   Enjoyed some great fiddling and guitar- even a jig or two by some of the attendees.  We spent a little extra time soaking it all in,  before we headed home.  The scions, etc. were tucked into the cooler for the long, windy, bumpy ride home.

On the way back we stopped and enjoyed a fantastic meal at Morse's Kraut Haus in Waldoboro!  Couldn't resist picking up some of their famous sauerkraut, as well as some Sour Mustard pickles.  Morse's is must stop for anyone traveling through.

Of course we might need a couple visits to the chiropractor from 6 hours of wickedly tricky pothole hits and misses - but so well worth the trip.

Now to keep the scions chilled until grafting time in a couple weeks.  Spring has definitely sprung!  woo hoo

I am T-  the other half -of the dream-wrangler team, in the Orchard adventure.
Mother to 3 amazing adult sons, and grandmother to the biggest rays of sunshine in our lives. Our oldest grand-daughter, we used to call "Little A", but now she is medium to tall-sized.  She is "Miss A" now. The last couple of  years she has greeted a brother, "Little R" , and this past fall, "Little Miss I" and another mister, who will be known as "Little K", arriving any day now!

Then there's H.- I'll let him elaborate at some point,  but in my opinion, he's the best seaweed wrangler west of the Atlantic. He remains our artist. in residence, and contines to astound T with his penchant for unusual garden-type installations.  He lives to dance a jig with his grand kids, and teach them all about gardens, growing and such.
